Winter covers do not make a lot of sense out here in Southern California. We barely have a winter. But solar covers? Every pool in the Valley should have one, and here is why.
A solar cover sits on the surface of your water and does two things. First, it captures the sun's heat and transfers it into your pool water. This raises the temperature by several degrees without using any gas or electricity. You can start swimming earlier in the spring and keep going later into the fall without touching your heater.
Second, and this is the big one for California, it dramatically reduces evaporation. During the dry months, an uncovered pool can lose a significant amount of water every week. That is water you are paying to replace and then paying again to heat and chemically treat. A solar cover cuts that evaporation way down.
We have seen customers extend their swimming season by a month on each end. That is two extra months of pool time just from a cover that costs a fraction of what a heater runs.
And here is something people do not think about: when you reduce evaporation, you also reduce chemical loss. Your chlorine and other treatments stay in the water longer instead of evaporating out. So you end up buying fewer chemicals too.
We carry a range of solar cover sizes and reel systems at the store. The reel makes it easy to roll the cover on and off in under a minute, so it does not become a hassle. Come in and we will help you find the right size for your pool.
